    Description

Fully restored 4/4 what is believed to be a Glass Violin. As with any violin, even Christies, Southbys, and Tarsio can be fooled, however the varnish on this violin is consistent with the Glass Manufacturing as well as the age. The label inside is definitely fake stating Antonio Stradivarius. I have included a picture of what Kennedy Violins is Selling as a Glass, and you can see the violins are almost identical. The style follows the Stradivarius modified in the Tyrolese Manner.
Friedrich August Glass II was one of the Klingenthaler aterliers that helped to establish the good reputation which violin makinbg earned for itself in the Vogtland Region in the 19th Century. This violin is  a persuasive example of the high standards which these masters applied in selecting their materials and executing their craftsmanship. Because this violin does not have the label expected there is no way to be 100% sure that this is a glass except by appearance. This violin however is a typical Klingenthal "native" with very transparent brown varnish and a golden yellow background; the combined effect creates a charmingly luminous highlights against the flamed maple. The purfling on this violin's meticulous shaped interior with 4 corner blocks are precision made. Sound post is intact, no cracks are seen.
What I can say about this violin is that it is from the circa 1850 - 1870. The Varnish is dark and used by the Glass Manufacturer. It is in the Stradivarius with Tyrolese influence. The label in the interior does not match the violin and I believe to be fake. Definitely a Master quality Violin. For Master quality sound I would recommend high quality strings. The current strings are "student grade" but even then this violin sounds fantastic. In restoring I have added fine tuners, and restored the case with new velvet, and hardware. The bow is current. Because I cannot guarantee absolutely that this is a Glass, however I do believe it is from all evidence, I am not putting the value in the 1000s.
